June 18, 1991

The Chippewas of the Thames Chief and Council passed the following motionn:

  • Motion #1Moved by Harley Nicholas, seconded by George Henry that this Council of the Chippewas of Thames First Nation approved Dr. Ron Commons, Executive Summary Recommendations for the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.
October 18, 1991

Further resolutions were passed to define the mandate of the Board of Education:

  • Motion #5Moved by Joe Miskokomon, seconded by Monica Hendrick that this Council of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation approve the development of the director of education including terms and conditions, responsibilities, relationship and finances.
  • Motion #6Moved by Mark French, seconded by Terry Henry that this Council of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation holds quarterly meetings between the Chief, Council and the School Board.
October 29, 1991

Additional resolutions were passed to clarify roles and responsibilities:

  • Motion #1 – Moved by Harley Nicholas, seconded by Terry Henry that this Council of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation appoint Monica Hendrick to act as liaison person to the School Board.
  • Motion #2 – Moved by Harley Nicholas, seconded by Joe Miskokomon that this Council of the Chippewas of Thames First Nation have the School board take over the Education system in finance, personnel, administration and curriculum development, as well as the Day Care system.

Chief and Council

It is with these motions, that this policy on Board Management has taken effect on June 30, 1993. The Chippewas of the Thames Band Council will delegate to the Board of Trustees full responsibility on all education matters. Furthermore, the Chief and Council and the Board of Trustees will act in partnership to assist each other in joint education matters that arises. E.g., finances, school buildings, etc.
