Secondary Information

What is the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship program (OYAP)

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school to work program that opens the door for students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 11 or grade 12 through the cooperative Education program.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)

A SHSM is a ministry-approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school. It also assists in their training, college, university or work place.

Certifications

In addition to gaining valuable work experience, students can earn a wide variety of school, District and Industry-recognized certifications, this would include WHIMIS, CPR, and first aid along with other certification such as fork lift operator and driver’s license. Certification opportunities vary based on the job sector the student is involved with.

Policies

Student Allowance

Students allowance program is to provide initiative to each secondary student to demonstrate their responsibility to attend school.

Credit achievement

The credit achievement program is to provide students with an incentive to obtain secondary school credits and to recognize the achievement of obtaining a secondary school credit to be used towards obtaining their High school Diploma

Student Supplies

Students may request assistance with payment of equipment/supplies for participation on school teams, major course equipment, and school teams and clubs.

Secondary School Late Transportation

Parents/Guardians may apply for funding to off set transportation costs of student being involved in a regular school after-school teams, clubs, and alternative programming.
